BTS: Flirt by Maggie Sottero

The prom dress company, Flirt by Maggie Sottero released their new website this week along with a behind the scenes video that they hired me to do. It's pretty cool to look through their catalog and know the models- I spent a couple days in their studio shooting the video and hanging out with the Maggie Sottero Crew.

Everybody was really fun to work with and I love the catalog shots they took! The left shot of Jess in the violet dress is probably my favorite shot-- It was interesting to see them pulling the dress out and dropping it to get the dress to flar like that-- You can see it at the end of the video.

My favorite part of the video? The logo spin at the end of course. Ha Ha.

In my film class we were challenged to express ourselves and create a self portrait that didn't include any part of us from our image to our voice. I explored a couple different areas that I could do this, and in the end I thought expressing my emotions visually would be a challenge, something totally different than my usual work, and be quite intriguing. Ever since I have been filming wedding videos there are always those that go out of their way to show their appreciation towards the work I put into filming their wedding. Even though they pay me to do it, there are always some couples that send me a thank you present, give me a call, or just simply write me a message or a text. No matter what the size, I love it, it really is one of the benefits of the work I do. I love that my work is making priceless memories that couples will have for a lifetime.

Lori Dunn has gone out of her way to make sure I know my talent and her appreciation. I am always receiving messages and texts from her with loads of praise and love. She's been so great! Just released their wedding video here: Greg & Myrinda

One of the most recent things I received was a Thank you letter, some gift cards and a mixed CD in the mail from Ashton & Fumi. They were such a great couple and to top it off, they went out of their way to thank me and give me a little bit more. Ashton figured out some of my favorite things and sent them my way. It made my day. :)

It is people like this that keep me doing what I love to do.

I just want to say thank you to everybody and anybody who has ever gone out of their way to say 'thank you' and has shown their appreciation in one way or another-- it means the world to me.

I had the amazing opportunity this week to work with Ron Dunn. Brandon & I filmed and produced documentary on Ron, structural engineering, and the effect he is having on our city, Salt Lake City. Ron is such an amazing man. He has a great passion to help others and to improve the city as a whole. Watch the documentary and see for yourself.
People use buildings everyday, but no one realizes who made that building stand. No one realizes that when they go to sleep at night, the reason their life will be there tomorrow is because in our contemporary world, structural engineers have ensured that buildings can withstand the test of time so that our world will last. Ron Dunn, the president of Dunn Associates, Inc. is an exemplary figure in Salt Lake City of progressing sustainable architecture at large. One cannot drive down a street in Salt Lake City without seeing a building he has engineered, and subsequently, see the lives of thousands of people that use those buildings that he has affected for the sustainability of their future. Without sustainable buildings, our lives would come tumbling down. So, let us make a choice. A choice to be sustainable. When building, let us build as if it will last forever.

So when I was talking to Kirsten and Austin on the phone, we went through some different options of what they could do, and the fair was our favorite for sure. They had me laughing all night - I didn't know I could have so much fun at the Utah State Fair with them! We just spent the night doing anything and everything at the fair and it turned out great! The lights and colors added that exciting touch to the video and I absolutely love how it turned out!

They will be getting married on the 8th of October in Salt Lake City, Utah-- It's going to be awesome! Save the Date!

we took the trip down in my little white 4door sedan-- yes the trip killed it. No more car.

Lincoln is so adorable. When I talked to Brett and Whitney on the phone, I was so excited to work with them to create such an amazing video. It's incredible how documenting the simple daily activities can be so precious.

"The Reception" - Laguna Niguel, California

This is the reception you wanted to be at this summer. If you missed it, then be sure to watch it now. The whole night had class & style. It was so fun to spend the night filming all the interactions between Tommy & Amanda and really see them break it down on the dance floor.

Last weekend Brandon and I were hired to shoot photography for the National Governors Association and Lori Tolbert Catering. It was the first event held in the Natural History Museum of Utah located next to the Red Butte Gardens. I loved the open contemporary architecture of the building.

We had so much fun shooting this up at Pineview Reservoir, and the night was perfect. They really know how to goof around and have fun with each other. They are both so funny; they had me laughing the whole time. Congrats you two!

Tayrrana & Timothy Olsen were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 9th 2011.

This wedding was so much fun to film, Tay & Tim have become some good friends of mine and I loved being there on that special day. As you can see it was really windy but I thought that it definitely added some character to the video.

Maya Final Project

So this last semester at Weber State University I enrolled in a new Maya class that they were offering. This class was a trial class to test out the curriculum, how effective, and popular it would be to start some type of animation program at WSU. I absolutely loved the class. It was for 6hrs. on Fridays, but I enjoyed every minute of it. During the sememster we went through the whole process of designing a short animation in Maya.

I first came up with the Character roughs I wanted to design in the program, scanned them in to start modeling them.

Then with shapes and modeling tools in Maya I was able to create it into a character and color it. Most of the semester we spent learning how to manipulate and transform shapes into the things we wanted to create. This can be a very long process in that creating detail takes tons of time. This part only took me about 3hrs since I tried to keep my character basic.

Next was the animating. Since I had a pretty cool character I figured that duplicating him and creating different sizes and playing around with their reaction would make for a pretty good video. I came up with the concept, wrote a storyboard and then had to start the animation process.
The key was taking this character and rigging joints, bones, and connections of all the different parts so it would move in the correct way. Then after that is correct there is the part of taking each leg, moving it to where you want it in each frame and controlling every movement of this character while still trying to make it look natural and alive. It's very hard for the character to not look too stiff..
I first animated the main spydor by without any of the little ones. Then I animated all the little spydors in and added the big mama at the end. Animating for my final project was well over 15 hrs. That is really long for a one and a half min video.

Once the animation was finished of course I wanted to make it even cooler by adding in my own special effects. This process was probably the hardest part for me. Taking this animation and bringing it to life with visual effects and sound really was a challenge. I basically had to create/take all these different videos of separate pieces of lasers, explosions (smoke, fire, light, debris, burn marks, dust, rubble) and combine them with the right timing, coloring, and layering to make it look real. It took a lot of trial and error since I haven't worked with explosions before. So there was a lot of self teaching involved, but it was so worth it.
I made it even more difficult on myself because I wanted a glass/mirror reflective ground in the animation, so after I finished each explosion, I would have to re-create it as a reflection on the floor.
I did all the effects in After Effects CS5 and it took about 14 hours to do it all and there were over 200 different layers put together to form all the different effects of the explosions, lasers, and reflections.

The audio is what really brought this animation to life. I found different fire/explosions sounds online in which I mixed several different kinds for each explosion, but the tinkering of the walking spydors was recorded with knifes on a mirror, and the other robot squeaking noises of their legs bending was made with an open stapler. ha ha. It was time consuming putting in all the different sounds of the feet. Putting in the music and sound effects took me about 4 hrs.

Here is the final product. It took me over 40hrs to do it, but learning the software was sooo much longer. Enjoy it. Comment and let me know what you think.

Tried a little italian restaurant, Caffe Molise. It's a well put together, and quite simple restaurant with delicious italian food. Try the Penne al Sugo while you eat amongst a garden patio, pool, and lush plants.

Luckily I had the pleasure of sitting next to a gorgeous girl.

then we headed to the John Mayer concert. now that is just a whole nother story amongst itself. :)

So this past month has been "last" everything as our mom reminds us. Here are some last memories of Brandon.

He needed his suit tailored, so we went to this little Asian man in salt lake, EXPRESS TAILORING & REWEAVING. He did an excellent job and has a small stylish bungalow on 300 West which is completely renovated. The interior is a combination of Asian serenity with the plushness of some French - like brocade. The front room has two changing areas which are cordoned off by these lush curtains. He also tailored my pants that I brought home from Argentina.. I still need to pick them up. Ha.

Then we headed over to another 'red plate.' (Brandon and I only eat at 'Red Plate' restaurants)
Moochies. One of the best philly cheese steaks I've had. Must go.
